Sales, Operations & Straight Talk

GilbertGemayel

I fix underperforming sales and messy operations.

For 20+ years, I've gone into messy setups and made them simpler to run: cleaner pipelines, clear numbers, and routines that teams actually follow. I've spent most of my time in owner-led businesses and SMEs (10–200 employees) in Lebanon and nearby markets, and I've also worked with international brands and regional distributors.

I'm primarily looking for full-time roles (Sales Director / Head of Operations). Occasionally, I take on a small 3–6 month project with an owner when it doesn't conflict with my main role.

About Me

Sales, operations, and straight talk.

I focus on what actually changes profit and cash. I come in, see where money is made and lost, and rebuild sales and operations so owners see what is happening in numbers, not stories.

I started in accounting and audit, then moved into sales, business development, and operations across construction materials, insurance, retail, and services.

Studying product management later gave me a more structured, customer-focused way of thinking: I prioritise changes by impact, test them in small iterations, and keep only what actually works for clients and the business.

Typical situations I get called into

  • Sales team is busy but closing weak or random deals
  • No clear view of profit per product, client, or project
  • Follow-up is done from memory and WhatsApp chats
  • Owner spends the day putting out fires instead of steering the business

Sales & Operations Diagnostics

Identifying where you are losing money, time, and leads across your sales and operational process

Hands-On Team Leadership

Working directly with owners and teams to change routines and behavior, not just presentations

Practical Use of Data & Tools

Using data and modern tools, including AI, to track performance and spot problems early — without overcomplicating the business

Experience

Results & Capabilities

Some of the concrete results and strengths I bring, combining finance, field experience, and product-style thinking: focus on the right problems, make a few high-impact changes, and measure the result.

Measurable Business Impact

A few examples of what this looks like in numbers:

Technitrade – From chaos to controlled growth

Mid-size construction materials distributor in Lebanon

Cost Impact

~35% lower operating & purchasing costs

Revenue Impact

~40% revenue growth

Control

Better margin & stock visibility

Context: Limited visibility on stock, margins, and which clients/products actually made money.

What we did: Rebuilt pricing, added simple stock and margin visibility, and introduced a weekly sales pipeline review.

Result: Costs down around 35%, revenue up around 40%, and much tighter control over margins and stock risk.

GGICB – Stronger renewals and retention

Boutique insurance brokerage

Retention

~50% improvement in client retention

Response Time

Faster renewals & claims handling

Context: Renewals and claims follow-up were handled informally, relying on memory and ad-hoc reminders.

What we did: Structured a basic CRM-style renewal and claims process with a clear view of active and at-risk clients.

Result: Retention up about 50% and faster response times, creating more stable recurring income.

Family Businesses & SMEs – Less chaos, more control

Retail, services, and trade owners working long hours without clear profit visibility

Context: Owners working long hours with little clarity on which products, clients, or services drive profit.

What we did: Mapped flows, clarified roles between sales, operations, and finance, and set up weekly reviews on a few key numbers.

Result: Better cash control, higher conversion on existing leads, and less fire-fighting.

What I'm good at

Core capabilities across sales, operations, and execution

Using Data & Tools

  • Turn messy spreadsheets into a simple weekly view of sales, margin, and stock risk
  • Build basic dashboards (Excel/Sheets/BI) so owners see conversions, top clients, and slow-moving items at a glance

Business Development

  • Design one shared sales pipeline instead of everyone working their own way
  • Focus reps on the right segments and offers so they close fewer, better, higher-margin deals

Financial Management

  • Tie sales targets to real capacity, stock, and cash so goals can actually be delivered
  • Adjust pricing, discounts, and payment terms to protect margin without killing the deal

Process & Product

  • Map how leads, orders, and claims really move, then cut steps that add no value
  • Use product-style thinking: start from the customer problem, test a few changes small, and keep only what works

Strategic Execution

  • Turn strategy into a short list of weekly numbers and routines the team repeats
  • Give direct, respectful feedback so people know where they stand and how they affect profit

How I Work With You

Simple, practical and focused on what actually changes the numbers.

Whether I'm in a senior role inside your business or supporting you on a focused project, I work side-by-side with your team: understand where money is made and lost, pick a handful of changes, and build routines the team can run without me in the room.

  1. Quick diagnosis. We review how leads, orders, and cash move through your business and where you feel things are stuck.
  2. Short, focused plan. Using a product-management style mindset, we prioritise a small set of changes with the biggest impact on profit, cash, and workload.
  3. Execution and routines. We implement the changes, create simple dashboards and weekly routines, and keep what actually works for your clients and your numbers.

Client Testimonial

"Before Gilbert, we were busy all day but blind to real profit. Within a few months, we finally understood our margins, cleaned our stock decisions, and the team had a simple way of working we could actually sustain."
